John Morton had 7 daughters by Janet before emigrating to NZ from Glasgow on 27 Nov in 1859 to Port Chalmers on the 'Cheviot'. Upon arrival he started farming again and the couple promptly had 3 sons. Janet died in childbirth having the 4 son in 1865. Left with a farm and a number of children to look after he promptly married again in 1867 and had 9 more children
