BENDER, SHIRLEY JEAN, 79, died on November 22, 2011 at her home in St. Margaret's, MD. Born on August 25, 1932 in Annapolis she was the daughter of the late Margaret Fisher Allston and James Blaine Allston. She was the loving wife of the late Leonard William Bender whom she married on August 13, 1949 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Annapolis. She is also preceded in death by her brothers Thomas Roydhouse and Kenneth Allston. Mrs. Bender is survived by four children; Karen Lamartin of Great Falls, VA, James Bender of Annapolis, Douglas Bender of Pasadena, Michael Bender of Leonardtown and brother Charles Roydhouse of Annapolis. She also has ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Bender graduated from Annapolis High School and attended the Fleet Business School in Annapolis. Mrs. Bender was a faithful member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Elks, Fleet Reserve, Annapolis Quilting Guild, and the Morning Star Quilting Bee.

The family will receive friends at The Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis on Saturday, November 26 from 1-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11 am in St. Margaret's Episcopal Church with the Reverend T. Stewart Lucas officiating. Interment will immediately follow in church's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Chesapeake at 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society American Cancer Society , 1041 Route 3 North Building A., Gambrills, MD 21054.
