Marylebone, London, and christened on 10 February 1819 at St Mary, Marylebone. Her christening record notes her father as a servant. Esther's known siblings were Ann and Emma.

In the 1841 census, Esther and sister Ann were living in Gilbert Street, Hanover Square. Both were noted as a semptress.
Esther married Thomas Roydhouse in 1843, with sister Ann being one of the witnesses.
Living with the family at Alfred Place at the time of the 1851 census were two lodgers: Henry Page, aged 26, a saddler,
and James Horton, aged 52, a servant.
Esther was widowed by the time of daughter Ann's marriage. The 1881 census records Esther, aged 62, as living at 92
Arthur Street, Chelsea. Her unmarried daughter, Ellen, aged 32, was living with her. Both were still there in the 1891 census.
Esther died on 12 November 1895 at her home in King Street, Chelsea. Her sudden death was subject to an inquest which
concluded with "natural causes, senile decay".
